Rules: 

• Bikers have the right-of-way on single track bike trails 
• Dogs allowed on leash or under voice command on all trails 
• Bikes are not allowed on hiking only trails 
• Authorized vehicles may be present at any time on all double track roads and pathways 
• Motorized vehicles are prohibited on all trails  
• No hunting on Crooked River Headwaters lands 
• Carry out all litter, including pet waste.

Bacon Hill is a growing network of high-quality, intermediate single-track mountain bike trails at 1268 Vernon Street in Albany Township located in the 12,000-acre Crooked River Headwaters conservation land. The first loop, “Little Bacon,” was built in 2017. It is a 1.7-mile, one way loop traveling clockwise. In 2018, “The Playground” was built. The Playground is a short but fun downhill berm network with a climbing trail to get back onto Little Bacon. In 2019, the 1.9 mile “Big Bacon” trail was built, leaving from the bottom of The Playground, and traveling on a single track corridor further into the property, briefly sharing a corridor with a woods road, then returning to Little Bacon on single-track terrain. The Big Bacon trail, unlike Little Bacon, can be biked clockwise or counterclockwise.  

The Connection: Bacon Hill connects the Albany Township community with mountain biking recreation opportunities. Although it is still a bit of an outpost in the broader IWT network of trail systems, it is close to the Bethel Village Trails system and Kendall Brook Forest. The trails are in the Crooked River Headwater conservation land, a 12,000-acre conserved forest in Albany Township, Greenwood, Waterford, and Norway, Maine. The Round Mountain hiking trail, and Long Mountain hiking trail are also located in the Crooked River Headwaters; In fact, Bacon Hill and Long Mountain share the same parking area and trailhead.
